Why am I so sore after a workout?

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) describes a phenomenon of muscle pain, muscle soreness or muscle stiffness that is felt 12-48 hours after exercise. This is noticeable particularly at the beginning of a new exercise program, after a change in sports activities, or after a dramatic increase in the duration or intensity of exercise.

  • Normal response to unusual exertion

  • Part of the adaptation process leading to greater stamina and strength

  • Starting a new workout routine (movement you are not used too)

  • Gentle stretching

  • Active Recovery (walk the sore muscles, clean house, any sort of low impact activity the following day)

  • Rest and Recover (wait it out)

  • Massage ( I know a good therapist if you need a recommendation)

  • Epson Salts Bath or ICE bath (brrr)

  • IB Profen is a athletes best friend

  • Yoga

  • Warm-up nicely before your next workout
